Monarch Watch is at the end of two grants from the Natural Resources Defense Council and Monsanto for free milkweed for restoration projects. To be eligible, applicants must be restoring habitat on a minimum of 2 acres and have a management plan in place for maintaining the site with other native grasses and forbs and controlling invasive species. Fall 2016 shipments will include Asclepias syriaca and A. incarnata. Flats of ER 221 common milkweed (A. syriaca) are available for immediate shipping. The minimum is four flats with an upper limit of a pallet (1400-1600 plugs). Over the last year, flats of milkweed have been shipped by Monarch Watch partner nurseries to sites across the Eastern US, with the focus on states along I-35, the “Monarch Highway.” For more information go to the Monarch Watch website.
