Trees make San Francisco. Areas of the city without them are sterile, there’s no feeling of connectedness. To be honest, as an Easterner, trees are matter of fact. But seeing the huge difference that a few thousand well-placed trees make in San Francisco has given me new appreciation for what they bring to urban living.
San Francisco Friends of the Urban Forest has joined with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission to install tree-centric sidewalk gardens in targeted neighborhoods. It was great to see trees planted in front of neighborhood stores too, not just residences.
