Landscape Institute position paper advocating for green infrastructure as a means to help solve social, environmental and economic issues.
(2013) Published by the Landscape Institute as a Position Statement. The Landscape Institute’s first Green Infrastructure position statement was issued in 2009. The Institute believed it necessary to shift their emphasis away from helping to make green infrastructure better known to showing how GI can help solve social, environmental and economic issues faced today.
The paper makes six recommendations: 1) Turn strategic GI thinking into reality; 2) Promote collaboration on GI across administrative and operational boundaries; 3) New developments should make a contribution to GI and appreciate their role in mitigating the environmental impacts of new development; 4) Champion GI that is planned, designed and managed effectively; 5) Ensure GI is well-funded for ongoing management and maintenance; and 6) Raise awareness of how GI can deliver multiple benefits simultaneously, from boosting the bottom line to mitigating the effects of climate change.
