Greenbelt Homes turned an eyesore into an amenity when they retrofitted a parking lot with LID practices.
Greenbelt Homes reconstructed a 12,000 sq. foot, 42-space parking lot to include a rain garden bioretention retrofit for the site to divert and capture a majority of rainfall runoff and promote infiltration to reduce negative impact to headwater stream system. They installed a concrete curb with inlets to direct storm water toward the infiltration basin and constructed a concrete-bypass structure to accommodate proper drainage in large storm events. Finally the entire area was landscaped with native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers to beautify site and discourage future trash dumping. (Undated) Chesapeake Bay Trust.
