Demand for New Jersey native plants spurred by regulations in the Pinelands Protection Act of 1979, pushed Don and Suzanne Knezick to focus their weekend nursery growing efforts on plants native to the Pinelands. In 1987, the Water Quality Act further expanded markets for natives. That’s when markets outside of New Jersey began to heat up. Today Pinelands Nursery is one of the largest native plant nurseries on the east coast providing plants for environmental restorations throughout the mid-Atlantic.
