“If we want Green Infrastructure to succeed, we need an army of Landscape Professionals to create and maintain Functional and Aesthetic projects.”
Under development by a consortium headed by the Chesapeake Conservation Landscaping Council, the University of Maryland Sea Grant Extension, Wetlands Alliance, Virginia Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries, and Virginia Habitat Partners. An entire list of several dozen collaborating partners is available on the website.
The certification program that is focused on small scale greeninfrastructure is currently in the development phase with pilots in Maryland, D.C. and Virginia planned for 2015-2016 and expansion to other Chesapeake Bay jurisdictions in 2017.
The target audience includes a bevy of conservation landscape professionals: Designers of small-scale conservation landscapes, Installation professionals and Maintenance professionals. The program will ensure that governments relying on green infrastructure stormwater features to manage runoff will be able to rely on trained professionals. Property owners hiring design, installation and maintenance professionals will also be assured the companies and individuals they employ are trained.
